Comunicats University of Aveiro

Comunicat (16-03-2020)

Dear Members of the Academic Community,

Today, we held the first videoconference meetings of the Management Council and Directors. The next meetings of the Pedagogic Council, Scientific Council and juries will also be based on videoconferencing, to protect the health of our community, in which no COVID-19 infection cases have been detected

The goal now is to guarantee the continuity of the teaching and learning processes. Remote classes will start Monday, March 23, being up to the Pedagogic Council to consider this new way of functioning

This effort, which many have already started, requires a new regulatory framework, support for teachers, support for students and the commitment of all

We will create a working group to coordinate the process, in articulation with the rectory, directors of the organic units, course directors, course commissions and students

We will create a technical-scientific support group for teachers, to assist in the adaptation of course units. We will provide to the entire community training and information about distance learning and the relevant technological tools

We are creating a community for sharing teaching practices, the results of which will be made available to the UA faculty and all Portuguese faculty interested in them

Details on each of these measures will be provided in due course

Some of the results of this effort are likely to transform teaching and learning in the UA and to have impact beyond this period of crisis — in which I count on everyone, with complete confidence.

Comunicat (16-03-2020)

Dear Members of the Academic Community

In addition to the measures already included in the Prevention and Action Plan against COVID-19 of March 11th, 2020, and considering the decisions of the Council of Ministers announced last night, as well as the clarifications issued by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education received today, the University of Aveiro determines the following:

  • The suspension of all activities involving the presence of students, including curricular internships, until April 9th, 2020;
  • The promotion of the use of distance teaching-learning processes that contribute to achieving the objectives of the course units;
  • The suspension of all public, national and international events and initiatives, including MSc and PhD academic examinations, scheduled at UA until April 9th, 2020;
  • The use of digital technologies - videoconferencing - by juries in recruitment procedures for teaching and research staff as well as in public examinations towards the award of the academic titles of aggregation and specialist.

Regarding the national students participating in student exchange programmes abroad, and by decision of the Government, the Director General of Higher Education will guarantee the continuity of regular monitoring and supervision of the management of the Erasmus+ Programme, towards ensuring a better and more efficient articulation between institutions, students and the services of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Prevention and Action Plan against COVID-19, available at https://www.ua.pt/en/covid-19-info, has been updated accordingly.

It is a constantly evolving reality that we will continue to follow closely, and these measures may be adjusted or complemented by others as the circumstances require.
