Foreign students who decide to arrive to Olsztyn have to possess a document stating a negative result for COVID-19 virus presence (dated seven days before arrival do Olsztyn or less), or undergo a two-week self-quarantine in one of the dormitory or a self-chosen place.

The University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn would like to inform you about the measures taken at our institution, following the recent pandemic COVID-19’s development.

Study activities requiring students’ attendance at the UWM premises are cancelled. This means that the university will be closed for classes (lectures, seminars), but teaching will still be provided online through online materials and long-distance learning.

The university’s administrative units are still working, some of them a remote basis. We  are in constant communication with all our Erasmus+ students. The students were allowed to stay or leave Olsztyn and continue studies though long-distance learning.

In accordance to the Regulation No. 37/2020 of the Rector of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn of 26 March 2020 on changes in the operation of the University in the state of epidemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus:

Teachers conducting courses are obliged to use remote forms of teaching from the date this order becomes effective until it is revoked, provided that the type of the course permits its implementation in the remote form and will enable the students to achieve learning outcomes assumed for the given course.

In order to implement didactic activities, the following remote teaching tools are recommended:

1)    Microsoft Teams in the Office365

2)    the e-learning Moodle platform;

3)    the LMS ILIAS educational platform.  

As of 30 March 2020, classes shall be held according to the current timetable. It is acceptable to change the day of the week and the time of classes after consultations with the student group participants and the dean.

As a consequence of changing the form of conducting courses into distance learning mode, it is allowed to adjust the conditions for verifying achievement of learning outcomes specified in the syllabus to the changed form of the courses.

This Regulation becomes effective as of 26 March 2020 and shall remain in force until further notice.

Dear Partners,

Hereby I am sending you the latest news about COVID-19 outbreak at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, Poland.

Although there are no confirmed coronavirus infection cases in the city of Olsztyn, the Rectors of UWM are addressing this situation very seriously, especially since the situation is changing so rapidly.

According to the Order No 32/2020 of the Rector of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn of 11 March 2020 on preventing the spread of coronavirus SARS-CoV-2:

1.    All the teaching activities at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn are suspended.

2.    Any use of the collection of the University Library at its main location or at its branches and reading rooms is suspended.

3.    All scientific, sports and artistic events organised by the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, and other events of this type, organised by other entities on the premises of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, are hereby cancelled.

4.    All business trips of staff members, students and doctoral students of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn and visits of guests from abroad are suspended.

5.    Providing accommodation to new individuals in student hostels is suspended; no guests are allowed in the student hostels.

6.    A staff member, student or doctoral student is obliged to inform the dean, head of the organisational unit at the university level, head of the doctoral school or the immediate supervisor, respectively, on the fact of their return from abroad.

7.    Staff members, students and doctoral students who have recently been to any country with the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 epidemics are recommended to remain at their place of residence for 14 days from the day of return and to follow the guidelines issued by the Chief Sanitary Inspector 

 This order becomes effective on 12 March 2020 and will expire on 29 March 2020. The period through which this order will be effective may be extended. Any further announcements regarding this order, if any, will be published on or before 26 March 2020.

The International Relations Office is in contact with all the incoming students.  The Office is ready to provide them assistance they might need. All the incoming students are informed about the measures of prevention and protection, recommendations and procedures regarding the spread of coronavirus, as well as the steps they need to follow in case they observe some symptoms of COVID-19 infection. The outgoing mobility of students and staff is delayed until the situation with COVID-19 passes.

In case of urgent departure away from Olsztyn or Poland, incoming students should inform  the Office for International Cooperation (by e-mail: biurowzz@gmail.com or bwm@uwm.edu.pl ).  This decision has to be considered with high priority. The Polish borders have been closed for all foreigners on 15th of March.
