Dear partners,

Greetings from the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague.

Regarding the recent developments concerning the Coronavirus (COVID-19), until now, March 16th, there have been 298 confirmed cases in the Czech Republic.

The government of the Czech Republic declared the State of Emergency in its entire territory for 30 days with effect from 12th March 2020 from 2 pm to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.

Since the State of Emergency has been declared the measures are tightening every day. The border crossing restrictions can be viewed here: https://www.mvcr.cz/mvcren/article/coronavirus-information-of-moi.aspx

The Government has adopted further extraordinary preventive measures aimed to prevent the spread of the coronavirus contagion in the Czech Republic.  As of Saturday 14 March 2020 at 6 a.m. through to 24 March 2020 at 6 a.m., all restaurants and shops are being closed, with the exception of those selling foodstuffs, hygienic and drugstore products, pharmacies and shops dispensing medical products and a few further exceptions.

From midnight March 16 to 6 am March 24 Czech Republic is under quarantine. People should leave their homes only for necessary commutes (go to work, hospitals and banks, buy food, take care of the young and elderly). The decision was made to protect the most vulnerable people in the country. It is not prohibited to go for a walk to the park as long as people don’t gather in groups.

Foreigners are entitled to remain in the Czech Republic for the duration of the state of emergency. Therefore, we highly recommend to the students not to travel and stay wherever they are (dormitories, private flats) at this moment. The university has implemented several distance learning tools and students are given instructions from the teachers via email and e-learning.

Students are regularly informed about the current situation and government announcements. Our ESN members (student volunteers) run WhatsApp and Facebook group where they discuss with students their concerns.

Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any question.

We will keep you updated.
