Comunicats de la University of Bamberg

Dear Partner,

Regarding the situation due to COVID-19, we would like to provide you with information concerning the University of Bamberg. Due to the academic year in Germany, our university is currently in the middle of the spring break. Regular lessons of the second semester will not start before Monday, April 20, 2020. We hope that the general international situation will have improved by then and of course we will inform you about any changes that might become necessary.

Although, being in the semester break we had planned to begin our usual three-week Intensive German Course and Orientation Programme for newly arriving exchange students on March 19, 2020. In order to limit the spread of COVID-19, however, the Government of the State of Bavaria has now taken some precautionary measures, including the temporary suspension of in-class teaching activities at all Bavarian universities. Therefore we will have to cancel the Intensive German Course and Orientation Programme at the University of Bamberg in its usual format. We will of course inform all students who have signed up for this course accordingly. All students will receive a full  refund of the course fees. Also, we are in the process of setting up an online intensive German course, which we hope to be able to offer to the students during the original course period free of charge.

We would like to mention that until now no members of the University of Bamberg community have been diagnosed with COVID-19, nor have there been any cases in the City of Bamberg. Still, we are taking the situation most seriously and always have our students’ and staff’s health and safety in mind.

The International Office and other service units like the libraries are open as usual. We will keep your exchange students up-dated on the unfolding developments (including university, state and local policies, procedures, and best practices) via the university website. All information about further developments can be found on our university website: https://www.uni-bamberg.de/gesund/coronavirus/

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any questions or concerns.

We apologize for the inconvenience of the cancellation of the Intensive German Course and Orientation Programme and we would like to thank you for your understanding and support.

With best wishes from the University of Bamberg

The team of the International Office
