Introduction

The Laboratory of Analysis of Pesticide Residues (LARP) of the University Jaume I has broad experience in analysis of organic residues at trace levels in environmental and biological samples. His Director Dr. Félix Hernández and his team hasve participated in the development of the new technics of analysis and in the applications of this technology to the detection of residues of pesticides allowing them to create this high standard laboratory, recognised by the Ministry of the Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs (MARM) as the Reference one in Spain, for Good Laboratory Practise (GLP) Studies related to the stablishement of maximum residue level.

The main services provided are the development of analytical methods and the determination of residues of pesticides in a wide range of matrices (vegetables, environmental and biological ones). All the studies are conducted in accordance with the Principles of Good Laboratory Practices, GLP, a quality system complying with European requirements. The laboratory was first accredited in 2001 and is currently accredited with GLP (Certif. nº. 08/17/BPL22) covering the performance of studies for the authorization and registration of plant protection products. Studies done under GLP are a requirement for this class of testing under Council Directive 91/414/EEC.

The LARP is one of the three working sections of the University Institute of Pesticides and Water (IUPA)
