    Employability

The interdisciplinary character of Universitat Jaume I guarantees the autonomy of students and opens up more chances of getting a job. In fact, all our curricula contain periods of practical training for all students, and these must be carried out in enterprises and institutions. The nature of these work placements is not occupational but academic. Their purpose is to provide students with experience of the real institutional, business and occupational situation of their respective professions in a local context by giving them the chance to acquire basic professional competencies and put them into practice. Last year, the percentage of students later engaged by the firm where they spent their period of practical training was 23.73%. Furthermore, with a view to increasing students' employability, the career development area in the OCIE organises activities to help students search for a job, information sessions on how to improve this search, how to write one's own curriculum vitae, etc. Thanks to these activities, the UJI is at present the university with the highest employment rate indicators within the Valencian Community.

    Small groups and practical methodologies

At present, 28 continuously assessed degree courses are available to about 13 500 students. These figures allow the University to offer its students personalized attention and to remain free of the problems of overcrowding so often suffered by other universities. Its new and attractive single campus helps to maintain this policy by encouraging closer human relationships.

    Use of the new technologies

Being fully aware that communication and creativity are the most important instruments for the future, Universitat Jaume I is a pioneer in the use of the new information technologies. Universitat Jaume I was the first academic institution in Spain to become part of the World Wide Web (WWW) and to develop a browser that could be used to search for information on the Internet. This browser went on to become one of the most commonly used in Spain. Universitat Jaume I is also the first Spanish university to have a Centre for Education and New Technologies (CENT) with a direct link to primary and secondary schools.

Furthermore, in order to improve the teaching quality, UJI is the first university in Spain to install in each one of its lecture rooms, audiovisual equipment and computers provided with Internet connection incorporated into the lecturers’ tables.

This effort to keep ourselves in the vanguard of scientific and technological innovation is complemented by a humanist education that helps students to complete their training both as professionals and as citizens.

The possibility of studying in other countries

Universitat Jaume I teaches new, flexible and competitive programmes of studies and curricula that enable students to satisfactorily respond to and overcome every challenge set by modern society. At the same time, and with the purpose of providing all its students with the most complete training, pains are taken to foster educational exchanges with other countries.

Universitat Jaume I currently offers its students the chance to do part of their studies in European Union countries (through the Socrates-Erasmus programme), in the United States (through the UJI USA Study Scholarship Programme) and in Latin America (through the UJI Mexico Study Scholarship Programme). Every year 20% of our graduates take part in these programmes.

Furthermore, Universitat Jaume I is also strongly involved in two international engineering projects (EURUJI and EURINSA), whose students receive part of their training in Spain and the other part in France.
