Universitat Jaume I

    Subjects

In each programme of studies there are three types of subjects:

    • Core subjects: these are subjects that must be studied and are part of all officially recognized programmes of study.
    • Compulsory subjects: these are freely established by each university, but are compulsory for all students in a particular course of study.
    • Optional subjects: these are subjects that students can choose from among those offered by the University and are aimed at furthering specialization in the course.

There are also free choice subjects, which have to account for not less than 10% of the total number of credits studied by the student on or outside their own degree course. They are not relevant for exchange students.

You can also follow what are known as "UJI style subjects", which Universitat Jaume I considers as compulsory and therefore must be taken at some time during your degree or diploma course. The purpose of these subjects is to provide students with a broader humanistic education that complements the specific knowledge acquired on each of the degree courses. The subjects currently available are the History of Europe, the History of European Thought, the History of European Legal Institutions and the History of European Economic Institutions. Students must also study user-level computing and English for specific purposes. These subjects can be taken as compulsory, optional or free choice subjects.

Exchange students (from Erasmus schemes or the University's own programmes) can also choose any subject from any degree course. Advice can be sought from their academic tutors.
