Universitat Jaume I Library and Archive users’ training programme
Year 2007-2008

The users’ training programme we present here aims to facilitate teachers, students and administrative and service staff access to scientific and technical information sources subscribed or acquired by the University in any format. In addition, the programme also includes the training related with consultation of documents generated by the University itself, which is in the University Archive, and European Union documents.

The complexity of access to information and the needs of teachers, students and administrative and service staff who have to use this quality information justify the implementation of a programme which is adequate to show how to use the tools the University has in order to be able to find and access information.

Various activities have been designed which aimed at developing users’ skills so that they can find and access documents by themselves. Sessions are organised at different levels, depending on the participants’ needs, and they are flexible enough to allow interested people to participate in them, according to their specific needs in the field.

This training programme is within the framework of the strategic planning objectives of the Library.

  • Consultations at the information desk

Users can go to the information desks located at the entrance of each floor to solve doubts they may have once in the Library. They will be informed by librarians on the following questions: Library organisation, opening times, services, bibliographic resources, searches in the catalogue, etc.

The information points are staffed Monday to Friday from 8 to 22 hours.
  • Self-learning

Several guides and situation maps can be obtained at the Library loan desk which allow users to solve certain doubts by themselves. In addition, users can visit the Library web site at http://www.uji.es/cd, which gives information on the main Library services and gives access to the bibliographic catalogue and to online resources.

Specialised training sessions

Next, we present a series of training sessions aiming at letting users know about the information resources and document search tools available at the University in various knowledge areas. Each session proposes a specific number of resources for analysis, depending on the preferences shown by requesting people. These sessions can take place either in the Library, or in the user’s department, if so specified.
